Advance natural dyeing is a 3-day dyer's oasis. Explore natural dyeing with founder Melanie Hasan in our dye kitchen and/or dyer's garden (weather permitting). This workshop is perfect for those enthusiastic to explore with nature and textiles. Great for beginners, and covering all levels and techniques of natural dyeing; fabric and fiber preparation, color extraction, eco-printing, bundle-dyeing, and more.
Guests will create natural dye note cards with recipes, reference book, or journal using different textiles for eco-printing, and swatches to create over 25+ colors derived from plants, bark, invertebrates, vegetables, and kitchen waste. Guests will have the opportunity to shift color using pH modifiers and metal. Guest will be allowed to explore independently using techniques learned to create a personal dye project that highlights topics discussed within the workshop. All materials are included in the workshop price.
Guest will learn:
- Week 1: Introduction to fabric preparation (scouring and mordanting), fabric/fiber types, dyer terms, safety, pH modification, achieving dye baths with botanical materials, basic dye techniques, dye plants + garden exploration, foraging, and more.
- Week 2: Introduction to natural dyeing and technique (bundle-dyeing, eco-printing, ink-making, and more), pH modification, yarn and fabric dyeing, and color extraction methods
- Week 3: Natural dye exploration, maintenance, and fiber care

Please be advised our studio no longer requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result to attend workshops, camps, and other events, effective 3.8.22.
In order to have a safe, healthy, and creative makers space we ask that you:
Wear a mask, during your visit. Please ensure your face mask covers your nose and mouth.
Maintain social distancing within the studio, we are limiting our in-store shopping to 4-6 customers at a time.
Stay home, if you're positive or sick. If you test positive, and recently visited our studio we ask that you contact us with dates of potential exposure so we can inform our staff and workshop guests. All information regarding the exposure will remain confidential.
All dye and fiber materials are included in the workshop price unless otherwise noted. All workshops, classes, and camps are non-refundable. If you can no longer attend a workshop, you may transfer your workshop to a friend or family member. Please let us know ahead of time by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org. In the event of a workshop cancellation, you will receive 24 hours advanced notice and a full refund.
