Warp, weave and transform your handmade cloth into a functional and stylish zip-bag for all your on-the-go projects! In this workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of weaving using a floor loom with Richie Lopez and sewing basics with Melanie Hasan.
Guests will learn:
- Week 1 (floor loom introduction): Calculate sett in order to determine yardage and epi, parts and functions of the floor loom, and proper dressing of the floor loom
- Week 2 (weaving): a full day of weaving while learning treadling, sequence of weaving, and hem stitch to prepare cloth for project pouch construction. Please note, week 2 class runs from 10am-2pm. Guest will learn a variety of weaving structures plain weave (tabby), twill, and hopsack using straight draft.
- Week 3 (sewing 101): machine operation using backstitch, straight stitch, and zig-zag stitch, seams, topstitching, pattern drafting, and zipper installation. Please note, week 3 class runs from 10am-1pm
- Week 4 (construction): a full day of sewing and constructing project pouch using skills from week 3. Please note, week 4 class runs from 10am-1pm
Project materials not included: To create a personalized pouch, guests are required to provide their own 1/2 of lining fabric, scrap material or muslin, matching thread, and zipper (11 inch-9 inch depending on the size pouch you choose). Yarn is included within the tuition price, however, guests are encouraged to bring own yarn types to make their project special. Please be advised our studio no longer requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result to attend workshops, camps, and other events, effective 3.8.22.
In order to have a safe, healthy, and creative makers space we ask that you:
Wear a mask, during your visit. Please ensure your face mask covers your nose and mouth.
Maintain social distancing within the studio, we are limiting our in-store shopping to 4-6 customers at a time.
Stay home, if you're positive or sick. If you test positive, and recently visited our studio we ask that you contact us with dates of potential exposure so we can inform our staff and workshop guests. All information regarding the exposure will remain confidential.
All dye and fiber materials are included in the workshop price unless otherwise noted. All workshops, classes, and camps are non-refundable. If you can no longer attend a workshop, you may transfer your workshop to a friend or family member. Please let us know ahead of time by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org. In the event of a workshop cancellation, you will receive 24 hours advanced notice and a full refund.
