Textile waste contributes approximately 85% to landfills each year, the equivalent to about 81.5 pounds per person. Zero- waste design is the process eliminating textile and pattern waste during production. In this workshop, attendees will continue to explore zero-waste designs while learning to design and produce their own bag. 

*Please note patch-work will not be covered or demonstrated during this offering. 

This workshop will cover:

  • week 1: zero waste project planning and drafting exercise, skills and techniques to achieve designs, bag-making hardware and application 
  • week 2: small goods and accessories, zip closures, handle installation, cutting layout and assembly
  • week 3: assembly and project completion

Skill level + age

Eager, intermediate or confident beginner (previously attended a sewing 101 or 201 workshop, garment construction or bag-making experience, familiarity with hardware and handle installation), and perfect for adults (14+). 

Workshop duration 

Multi-day, approximately 3 hours per week

Materials + supplies

Attendees are responsible for class materials and supplies. Attendees will receive a materials list 2 weeks prior to class. 

Attendees are welcomed to select fabric that was generously donated to our little free seed + dyer's library from the friends of Modest Transitions.

Tuition costs includes workshop materials, handouts, and lecture unless otherwise noted.

Attendees will receive a 10% off discount code that can be used for products available at Modest Transitions and future workshops (excludes community workshops, private consultations, and rentals).

Refunds + registration policies 

All workshops, classes, and camps are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your workshop to a friend or family member. Please let us know ahead of time by giving us a call or emailing customer service at hello@modesttransitions.com. In the event of a workshop cancellation due to enrollment, illness, weather, etc., you will receive 72 hours advanced notice and a full refund.
