hand-spun banana

$18.00 Sale Save

Banana yarn is a thick, hand-spun rope derived from the banana tree's bark. By soaking the bark, cellulose is extracted and extruded into pulp before being spun into yarn. Compared to other fibers such as cotton, wool, hemp and silk, banana fiber has superior stiffness. Upon dyeing, it can be slightly softened, making it a versatile choice. Its characteristics are 100% banana fiber and notable stiffness.

Dyers: If planning to naturally dye your banana yarn/rope, we recommend mordanting in soy milk for at least 3 to 7 days. This will help soften the yarn and add additional protein to the yarn.
