This workshop celebrates artisanal dye techniques with the practice of natural dyeing. Natural dyeing is an intricate and magical process of extracting vibrant color from various plant materials-leaves, bark, roots, and flowers. This practice often leads to unpredictable results yet provides a sense of tranquility and gratitude for nature. Together we will explore the fundamentals of natural dyeing from preparation, mordanting, and dyeing (samples) including lake pigments the process of creating dry powdered pigments from a liquid natural dye.

About the instructor
Philly made, Melanie Hasan is a self-taught artist and studio owner of Modest Transitions. While challenging beauty norms, Melanie began constructing garments that refine beauty, while innovating designs that are socially respectable for the modestly dressed. She later studied sustainable design and production at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, Pa. Modest Transitions highlights her studies of aesthetic and playful use of natural dyes, textile waste and fiber materials.
Workshops require a minimum of 4 students. An email notification will be sent 3 days before class if the enrollment minimum is not met. All dye and fiber materials are included in tuition price unless otherwise noted. All sales are final but can be transferred in the event you can no longer attend.
